Best Seat in the House

Alright. Just one more college football blog. In a few short hours, those lovable, funny-bouncing pigskins will take flight from their tees and officially open the 2008 season.

As I peck away at these keys, crowds are starting to gather outside campus stadiums throughout the country. But we've already covered tailgating essentials this week. Today, I'd like to take a moment to review the never-overrated vantage from which so many of us witness our team's triumphs and defeats: the familiar living room.

It's easy to idealize a Saturday at the stadium. But let's give our sofas and recliners their due accolades. When it comes to comfort, climate control, and respect for one's personal space, stadium seats will never best our at-home favorites.

Allow me to tender a few more advantages of our venerable couches and club chairs. My concessions savings approach infinity when I choose my kitchen over the concourse. Restroom lines? Not at home, dear readers. No strategic planning required.

"And what's this apparatus in my hand? Just press this button and what happens? An entirely different game? Hogwash. Let me give it a try. Ha! Isn't that nifty? We just went from Lincoln to Baton Rouge!"

I would proclaim the remote control the greatest invention of all time, but I don't want to hurt my TV's feelings. Anyway, football fans know that this honor belongs to the one and only DVR.

Yep, home is a beautiful thing, especially when your team is on the road. This season, make your place the place to be when it's time to watch the big games with family and friends. After all, these folks make a strong case for why the student section so often takes a backseat to your living room sectional.
